How Auto-Reverse Systems Work

Photo-Eye Sensors
Mounted 4-6 inches above the floor on either side of the door, these sensors create an invisible infrared beam across the doorway. When anything breaks this beam while the door is closing, the door immediately stops and reverses.

Mechanical Auto-Reverse

Testing Your Safety Features
Monthly testing is essential. Here's how:
Photo-Eye Test:
1. Start with the door open 2. Press the close button 3. Wave a broom handle through the sensor beam 4. The door should stop and reverse immediately
Mechanical Reverse Test:
1. Place a 2x4 flat on the ground in the door's path 2. Close the door 3. When it contacts the wood, it should reverse 4. If it doesn't, the force settings need adjustment
Common Sensor Problems
Misalignment: The most common issue. Sensors must face each other precisely. Look for steady green lights on both sensors.
Dirty lenses: Dust, spider webs, and debris can block the beam. Clean lenses with a soft cloth monthly.
Sun interference: Direct sunlight can overwhelm sensors. Install sun shields if needed.
Wiring issues: Damaged wires from lawn equipment or pests can cause failures.
LED light interference: Some LED bulbs interfere with sensor signals. Use opener-compatible bulbs.
